The Mark Steward team recently sat down to chat with Yesenia Polanco, owner and attorney at Polanco Law in North Raleigh. She specializes in immigration law and has contributed greatly to the diversity in the triangle since moving here twenty years ago. Originally an immigrant from El Salvador, Polanco knows first hand what the families that are going through the process of immigration are feeling and has made it her everyday career and passion to help them. She has received numerous awards for her contributions of diversity, but especially loves the award from the Triangle Business Journal for being a role model.
When asked about her favorite part of diversity the triangle has to offer, she says energetically, “food! You can go to a good taqueria, get great Lebanese, Southern food, Latin, African, anything you want!” She appreciates all of the different ethnicities of people in the triangle and believes that diversity makes us better people. She is so drawn to the triangle area because there is always opportunity for business and professional growth, which is something she appreciates as a young entrepreneur.
When asked what inspires her the most, Polanco simply answered, “people.” She has such a great passion for her job, in which her main purpose is to keep families together. Those families inspire her and drive her to keep working to spread diversity everywhere she goes, but especially in Raleigh.
When she is not helping families in need, she enjoys eating at Baba Ganoush, shopping at Belk of Crabtree, which supports a lot of Latino events in the area, and Latin dancing! Something you may not know about her is that she got her undergraduate degree at the University of Chapel Hill. She thoroughly enjoyed her years there, as she says that is the time when your minds are fresh and bright. “You just want to change the world and while at Carolina, everyone tells you that you can!”
Yesenia Polanco is certainly on her way to changing the world with the great strides she’s made in the triangle. We are so proud of her and the amazing, diverse city that we call home. Don’t you want to live here too? Contact us, the Mark Steward Team, to make the move today!
